“My Generation,” a new scripted drama series following the stories of nine friends and the promise of what their futures could bring, how far they’ve come and how they got here, as told through the camera of a documentary film crew, premieres THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 23 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.
In the premiere episode, “Pilot,” a documentary crew follows a disparate group of high school seniors from Greenbelt High School’s class of 2000 in Austin, TX as they prepare for graduation, and revisits these former classmates ten years later in 2010 to see where they are now, what they’ve become and where they’re still headed. The camera lenses reconnect with Steven Foster, “the overachiever” in high school, who succumbed to pressures and ended up escaping to Hawaii to surf and be a free spirit. However an unexpected call from Caroline Chung, the shy “wallflower,” has Steven returning to Austin after discovering that they have a nine-year-old son together, conceived on prom night. Upon returning, he bumps into Jackie Vachs, the high school “beauty queen” who went to Hollywood to become a starlet but came back and got married when that didn’t pan out. Their chance encounter exposes some chips in her veneer of marital bliss with Anders Holt, “the rich kid” whose charmed life took an unexpected turn after breaking up with his high school sweetheart and first love, Brenda Serrano. Brenda was the class “brain” who is now doing very well for herself as a high-powered Congressional aide in DC.
The documentary filmmaker also catches up with Kenneth Finley, “the nerd,” who stayed in Austin and became a teacher and dreams of starting a family of his own. He’s created a sort of surrogate family when by allowing his former high school girlfriend, Dawn Barbuso, “the punk,” to stay at his house until her baby is born, since her husband, Rolly Marks, is away in Afghanistan serving a tour of duty. Rolly, “the jock,” ended up forgoing his athletic scholarship and joined the army after the 9/11 attacks. And Falcon, “the rock star” who is everyone’s friend, is on track to become a music producer. It’s his ties to his old friends that keep him rooted. As the lives of these nine friends are documented, we get an intimate look at how much can change over ten years and all that still lies ahead for them.
“My Generation” stars Michael Stahl David as Steven, Jaime King as Jacqueline, Kelli Garner as Dawn, Keir O’Donnell as Kenneth, Mehcad Brooks as Rolly, Julian Morris as Anders, Daniella Alonso as Brenda, Anne Son as Caroline, Sebastian Sozzi as Falcon and Elizabeth Keener as the filmmaker.

Four actors of the My Generation cast have been featured in the Nylon September 2010 TV issue and Michael was one of them. The other three are Kelli Garner, Daniella Alonso and Keir O’Donnell.
Thanks to my friend Maria we have scans of the feature in the gallery. You can read the article below!
The premise of My Generation, premiering this fall on ABC, is like a mash-up of your favourite movies: A documentary crew follows a group of nine Texans during their senior year of high school and then catches up with them 10 years later. There’s “the overachiever” (Steven Foster, played by Michael Stahl-David), “the punk” (Dawn Barbuso, played by Kelli Garner), “the brain” (Brenda Serrano, played by Daniella Alonso), and six other archetypes who are coming to realize that life doesn’t always go quite the way you expect it to. According to Garner, the show is about “dealing with the ramifications of not being who you said you were going to be.” That means couples break up, careers are abandoned, and – yes – the wallflower gets with the class president. But it’s more than just a high school fantasy sequence: My Generation also references events and pop culture moments of the past decade (from Enron to OutKast to the recent oil spill). “It’s the idea of tying personal stories to history”, explains Stahl-David. Adds Keir O’Donnell, who plays Kenneth “the nerd” Finley, “They’ve come up with something that’s refreshing and new, but also very truthful. It’s something different – especially for TV. It feels more like a film.”
MICHAEL STAHL-DAVID
How would you describe Steven?
He’s pretty guarded. He’s been through a lot, [and so] he’s created a life in which he doesn’t have to deal with the past. How would Steven describe the show?
He’d be kind of weirded out by it.How has it been shooting My Generation?
It’s so fun, we’re improvising a ton to create this sense of these relationships in high school. We shot this prom scene and we literally just had a dance party – I jump in and do the worm. Why should people watch My Generation?
Everybody’s going to be talking about it. People our age are totally going to get it.
